The documentary follows The Band from their days as a backing group for rockabilly star Ronnie Hawkins to playing with Bob Dylan in 1966 when he changed to a rock artist, from their landmark first album Music From Big Pink to the group's initial breakup commemorated in The Last Waltz and their comeback in 1992.
