The expulsion of protestants from 16th and 17th century Austria is the subject of Karl Schönherr's GLAUBE UND HEIMAT. In his stage production at the Vienna Burgtheater, director Martin Kusej also references the Holocaust and discrimination against foreigners. Not only the questions of faith, but also fear and distrust, tear families apart. Old Rott, a Lutheran, clings to his possessions, in spite of the “Wild Rider's” brutal killings of protestants. But he has to give up everything and start a new life somewhere else. First staged in Vienna in 1910, GLAUBE UND HEIMAT was one of the most popular plays of its time and is still relevant today. It addresses ostracism and expulsion and the treatment of foreigners.
