Transformed by the violence of the evil moment, Haimanti lifts the trident of her priest father's presiding deity, and plunges it into the tormentor. Shakti prevails over evil once more. But there's a change in the way people perceive Devi. So, even as drums, conches and lights celebrate decimation of Asura, one viewer says, "She is a killer!" "Certainly not!" counters Sen. "If a woman takes the step in self-defense, it isn't murder." Besides, definitions of good and bad may change with time, definition of justice does not. "It still demands that evil be punished and virtuous be redeemed," Sen asserts. "Essentially Devipaksha is about the power within every woman," explains Rituparna.
