In the 1920s, Vladimir Deshevov was regarded as a great beacon of hope. Darius Milhaud praised him in the French press as 'ingenious' and 'extremely original'. Subsequent efforts to publicise his work abroad were unsuccessful at the time. Deschewow's most prestigious composition commission followed in 1929 with Eis und Stahl.
