Using the demolition of 211 Gordon in Verdun as a case study, "FM-Air" revisits the recent history of Quebec FM, documenting its loss of popularity and questioning the current state of radio in Quebec and its future. For decades, the mythical building that fell to the wrecking ball had been home to CKVL AM and CKOI FM. These two stations, with their very different styles and target audiences, represent a veritable golden age of radio, and have left their mark on generations of listeners. "FM-Air" pinpoints such realities as the replacement of professional hosts by comedians and showbiz stars, the homogeneity of hosting style, audience fragmentation, the growing popularity of the Internet as a source of information and entertainment, the arrival of satellite radio, audience migration to other sources of entertainment, and the sale of Montreal's antennas to pan-Canadian corporations listed on the stock exchange.
