At an exhibition of the works of Vincent van Gogh, the Doctor and Amy discover a disturbing image hidden in one of his paintings. Travelling back to Provence in 1890 to uncover the truth, they must deal with an invisible monster that only van Gogh can see and navigate the tortured artist's swings of mood, knowing full well that, within two months, he will have taken his own life.
