A German family have arrived in a village in Prussia which belonged to Germany till the end of WW2. It turns out that they have not just come to admire the beauty of the Lakeland but to find their origins. The head of the family, Hugo finds his former house where he was born and spent his childhood before running away in 1945. He left behind his parents buried in the garden after they had been executed by Russians… Now Hugo would like to find his parents’ remains and give them a proper burial ceremony. He is prepared to offer a large sum of money to the new owners of the estate so the whole matter is settled quickly and discreetly – since he himself might pass away soon and the legal procedures take forever. The Polish family discuss the matter and decide to go along with the plan but it turns out that the remains have been removed. The father confesses that he threw them away many years ago during some gardening work… It seems that the transaction has fallen flat. However, a wise member of the family comes up with a brilliant idea to “borrow” appropriate remains from the cemetery … And so the tragicomedy begins; a story about reconciliation sealed with a love affair between the youngest members of the families – Ola and Martin…
