Composer Allan Pettersson (1911-80) was one of Sweden's foremost symphonics. But he didn't want his first symphony to be performed. It was not until 2010 that it was officially played. In connection with the 100th anniversary of his birth, filmmaker David Lindberg made a film about the reconstruction of Allan Pettersson's mythical first symphony. Conductor Christian Lindberg came across the sketches to the symphony and succeeded in compiling a score of the rather scribble and almost the unreadable note printing. The film is also partly a portrait of a man who grew up in Södermalm's poor neighborhood of Stockholm and for more than a decade played viola in the Stockholm Concert Association before he dared to become a full-time composer, despite his severe rheumatism.
