Kanlı Aşk

Set in the Kingdom of Bhutan between India and China WHAT HAPPINESS IS shares insight into a country where filming had been largely inaccessible. This documentary follows the adventures of civil servants who travel the peaks and valleys of the Himalayas in the name of their King to determine the country's level of happiness.

Long an insular country, Bhutan wants to modernize without selling its soul and intends to open its doors to the world without succumbing to materialism. WHAT HAPPINESS IS, a documentary by Harald Friedl, examines a unique project. The Kingdom of Bhutan between India and China wants to scientifically measure the happiness level of its population. Gross National Happiness instead of the gross national product. Civil servants from the Ministry of Happiness travel the country for eight months. A road movie by Harald Friedl to the most distant of all destinations: happiness.
