The basis of the short documentary film ROMANES is a video work shop with Roma youth who are at a camp in Rome, Italy. The teenagers film each other, ask questions and speak about their cultural, social and political situation in Italian society. The three day work shop offers teenagers aged between 16 and 21 the chance to collect experience and impressions both in front of and behind the camera. The video medium turns out to be a fitting format for these young people. In mutual interviews or short staged stories, they address their personal situations and work together creatively. The video project's main goal is to portray a culture and a generation whose protagonists are born in Rome but who are refused Italian citizenship and to offer them a platform.
