The Mervine Kahn Legacy
Louisiana, a cultural gumbo creates communities like no other. Mervine Kahn, a French-speaking German Jew, arrived in 1880s Cajun Country - little Rayne, LA. Embraced by his Cajun neighbors, Mr. Kahn's impact on Louisiana Culture was huge. His 1884 store was the center of the Rayne Community, a major economic hub in the region. He was Acadiana's primary importer and source of accordions for Louisiana's original Cajun and Creole Accordion Masters. Many Rayne families survived the Great Depression by working for the Kahns. This Documentary tells the story of the amazing Cultural Economy created in Rayne by this man, his family, and his neighbors. More than 30 first hand accounts by Acadiana residents share 'The Mervine Kahn Legacy'.
