Matera, the town of Sassi and Rock Churches, is rich in mysteries and incredible stories like this one: in 1962, a German Art History teacher arrived in Matera on a sports car, together with two of his students. During his stay, he was noticed by some shepherds, who saw him running around on his red car. After his departure from the Lucanian town, it was found that the professor had taken away a big number of frescoes, torn off from the very ancient Rock Churches. The case was investigated by Interpol, that quickly recovered some of the stolen goods. Fifty years later, a young tour guide found a new lead in the case, the investigation was re-opened, and the story of the theft resurfaced with an incredible surprise...
