THE FRIEND SOUND A Musical Tradition of the Western Alps, Valli Di Lanzo (Italy). This film is the product of anthropological fieldwork documented between 2011 and 2015 in the Alpine region of Valli di Lanzo, where we delve into a world of orality and the everyday, in both a real and imaginary time, public and private, punctuated by the festivals and rituals of a society surviving the centrifugal force of globalization. Here, musical practice is not a show or a revival, but rather an intrinsic part of life. The story is developed through a series of chapters documenting the characteristics of a specific musical tradition inextricably linked to its social context. Musical structures are related to social structures, producing a sound that conveys emotional and deep connection, where members experience shared meaning within a harmonious collectivity. In this world, feeling the music means feeling the community. From research to first-hand accounts, we come to understand that friendship is at the core of this music, a crucial element for the expression of this sound to reach its full potential. This film is in Francoprovenzale, the dialect of this region, and one of the twelve historical linguistic minorities recognized by the Italian Republic.
