The film explores the life of Uno Ekblom, an eccentric innovator from Finland who in 1939 embarked on a great and hazardous adventure over the Atlantic. In a small motor boat, Uno sailed from Finland to New York with two fellow crew members. The film asks why he left and never returned and what drove him to leave his family behind.
