A Park for Detroit
In the 1890s, the city of Detroit hired famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted (co- designer of New York City's Central Park) to create a one-of-a-kind park on Belle Isle in the Detroit River. In this updated film from 2015, the director uses news footage and surveillance tapes from motion sensor cameras, to take a Night at the Museum look at the flora and fauna that are reclaiming the island's abandoned zoo. Providing commentary about the city with this visual field guide, the director and narrator labels plants and identifies the wildlife caught on tape. Among them: a pair of foxes living next to an abandoned office chair in an old seal pool and a wolves howling near the zoo deserted pavilion.
