An interesting, hitherto untold story of an event that initiated the military and economic alliance between the United States and the Republic of Turkey. An incredible series of events occurred after the legendary diplomat Mehmet Munir Ertegun died of a heart attack while on duty in Washington in 1944 while he was the Turkish ambassador to the United States. The body of diplomat Ertegun, father of brothers Ahmet and Nesuhi Ertegun, two famous Turkish-American founders of Atlantic Records, was brought to Istanbul on the USS Missouri, the largest warship in the world at that time, while the Pentagon was actually strictly warning to Stalin's expansionist Soviet Union.
