Researcher, PhD Siria Kohonen introduces us to the age-old traditions of vernacular magic of the Baltic Sea Finnic people. The rich tradition spans everyday magic performed by common folk, as well as advanced magic performed by local ritual specialists. Doctor Kohonen has studied the Baltic Sea Finnic incantation traditions at the University of Helsinki. Her studies combine the perspectives of folklore studies, ritual studies and cognitive psychology. Her main interests focus on the questions of how people - lay people as well as ritual specialists - encountered and interpreted magic in their everyday life.
