There is no doubt that cigar makers shaped the city of Gijón, writing, it is soon said, 160 years of its history through a cigar factory, "La Tabacalera", located in the Cimavilla neighborhood. Beyond the history that these walls undoubtedly contain, Cigarreres explores the extent to which this factory was linked to Gijon society. Far above the production, organization and distribution of its merchandise, tobacco, we find the uniqueness of its human capital, women, cigarette makers. This is the story of the last cigarette makers, heirs to a matriarchal tradition that lasted until its closure in 2002.
