In 2022-2023, ten artists participated in Whiria te Tangata, an innovative community-focused artist-in-residence trial programme facilitated by Creative Waikato. Guaranteed income for one year, the artists were enabled to deliver community wellbeing through creative activity. This test case set out to measure the impact such a model of socially-minded arts patronage would have on artists and their communities.
