"A Festa do Cururuquara - Um Quilombo do Samba de Bumbo Paulista" is a documentary narrated by Cangussú, a personification of the bumbo (bass drum) from the village of Cururuquara. Through him, we learn about the story of resistance of a Quilombola family and their fight to keep alive their 137-year-old celebration, a street parade and party that has taken place since the abolition of slavery in Brazil in 1888. It is the story of a community that has won battles against racism and religious intolerance, praising Saint Benedict and honoring their ancestors.
