Based on the novels of the same name, the show tell the story of twenty-three-year-old Rufus Heilbronn faces an uncertain future. Plunged into petty crime, he can't get out of it and is racking up debts. However, during a social evening in Vienna, the young man's eyes meet those of the beautiful Anne Haudelord, niece of a wealthy Austrian politician. After their meeting, the lives of the two young lovers take a completely different turn. Rufus decides to leave Romania to pursue an improbable project that could condemn him to life imprisonment.
