Liam Thomas worked at sea as a fisherman and then as a submariner serving with the Royal Navy, before leaving to become a police detective.

He is also a writer. His BFI supported short film, The Tide, written as a proof of concept, is a story of place, identity and mental health in a fishing community fighting for its very existence. The film collected 19 laurels and three outright awards globally. He is now developing the feature length screenplay.

He is also currently (2023), writing a television pilot, a crime drama informed by his experiences as a detective with the metropolitan police.

His first book, a memoir, The Buyer -The Making And Breaking Of An Undercover Detective - will be published by Penguin Random House in April 2023.
