Corey W. Allen is an American filmmaker and performer. He has had a number of small television roles and leading roles in a handful of independent films.
He is the writer, director, producer, and star of the experimental romance feature True Dreams.
His most visible roles were either playing "the boyfriend," first as Josh Carson on the Dawson's Creek spin-off Young Americans as Michelle Monaghan's love interest, and later in Mona Lisa Smile as Maggie Gyllenhaal's wedding date; or cast as "the victim," in appearances on NBC's Law & Order: SVU and Third Watch.
Born Corey Allen Witmer in suburban Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Corey attended Harrisburg Arts Magnet School, where he studied Broadcast Journalism and Production on both sides of the camera, producing and anchoring programs on local ABC affiliate WHTM-TV's Youth Perspective and cable-access channel CRA-TV's High School Report. He was a finalist in the national search for Channel One, an in-school content program that launched the careers of Anderson Cooper and Lisa Ling. During this time he also wrote the teleplay She Cried, which was honored with a national Scholastic award.
Working part-time jobs at Blockbuster Video and Hollywood Video helped inspire Corey's love of cinema. At Towson University he majored in Electronic Media & Film Studies, studying screenplay writing and producing under veteran Hollywood producer Keith W. Strandberg, Corey was also a classmate of acclaimed filmmaker Mike Flanagan.; minoring in Theatre (he studied with Tony Award-winning actor John Glover). He was a Division I student-athlete as a middle-distance runner on the Track & Field and Cross Country teams; and he also briefly fronted the short-lived indie rock band Epstein's Shadow.
While in the Baltimore/Washington area, Corey cut his teeth as an actor/model, booking parts in industrials (some with titles that would make even Troy McClure blush; like Cosmetology: A Career With Possibilities, Baby's First Months, and Tech Systems Training 2000), commercials (McDonald's, Comcast, State Farm, Nextel, MCI, Time Life Music), television (Homicide: Life On The Streets, America's Most Wanted, Discovery Channel, PBS, Home Shopping Network), and film (Runaway Bride, The Replacements, The Curve).
The momentum of recurring network role on Young Americans drove Corey to New York City, where he signed with the Wilhelmina agency; and studied under Flo Salant Greenberg, whose Actors' Workshop alumni includes Jennifer Lawrence and Matt LeBlanc. Between his bookings in film (background roles in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Men In Black II, Zoolander, Kate & Leopold), television (All My Children, Guiding Light, As The World Turns; an MTV commercial, and Sex In The City as a stand-In for Chris Noth's "Mr. Big" character), and print and editorial (Microsoft, Miller Lite, Time Magazine, Bed Bath & Beyond, Capitol One, Yahoo!, General Cinemas, Rubbermaid), he crafted his passion project, True Dreams, which was screened at the NY International Independent Film Festival, Arlene's Grocery Film Festival, and was the closing film of the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts.
It was on the set of Zoolander while shooting the exterior of "the walk-off" scene that he met his leading lady and they were later married onstage at Broadway's Hudson Theater.
Corey parlayed his film and television production skills into a career as an integrated and experiential producer. With stints at New York Road Runners, VMLY&R, Johannes Leonardo, and Momentum Worldwide; he's worked with major brands like Google, Nike, Apple, Disney, Budweiser, American Express, Netflix, and Facebook.
As an award-winning producer he's thrown parties for Justin Timberlake, designed a Pride parade float with the cast of Orange Is The New Black, run a 5K with Kevin Hart, led an Olympic-style opening ceremony, and hung vertical dancers 100 stories in the sky.
His event production work has been recognized by Ad Age, The Clio Awards, and The Wall Street Journal.
