Griffin Wallace Henkel comes from an artistic family. His father was a young model and actor before college, his mother is a novelist and screenwriter, and his grandfather played leads in community musical theater for decades. He began acting in kindergarten, booking the first commercial he ever auditioned for with NBC Universal. On the set, he was accidentally placed in the wrong group, handed a neon suit and told to dance freestyle with a group of talented kid dancers. Being naturally good at improv, Griffin gamely pretended to know how to dance and hopes no one was the wiser in the end.
Since that first job, Griffin has worked on challenging projects with excellent directors. His first lead role when he was ten, Griffin worked in Mexico City, Mexico for two weeks on Remind Me, a short film that won two Gold and "Best of" awards in New York and International film festivals and was nominated for five others.
His second lead - and second short filmed during Covid - was in Eve, written and directed by Wesley Wang (Mute, Everything, But Nothing) which recently premiered at the Oscar-qualifying LA Shorts International Festival.
As with many New York child actors, he has been in body bags since a young age - burned in FBI: Most Wanted, drowned in Frozen Waters, and narrowly escaping a murderer in The Truth About Justice. He was also a young serial killer in Evil Lives Here.
Hist most recent film, still in post-production, is the true story of Maine hero and legend, Donn Fendler, who was lost for 9 days in the wilds of Maine in 1932. Griffin plays Donn's twin brother, Ryan and during filming spent a very happy month in the woods of Upstate New York working with extremely talented actors, director and crew.
Although he will always be a New York actor at heart, Griffin now calls Houston, Texas home, and travels for work with his mom, who is at home full-time. His father is an asset development executive. Being a public-school student in Texas has been a new experience for Griffin, who spends his time playing golf, running for the track team and getting good grades, while still studying at Stella Adler Conservatory via Zoom on weekends and auditioning regularly.
