Lovie Jung is 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 Lithuanian 1/2 Filipino. Her ethnic Chinese grandfather was a graduate of Brooklyn Tech, the premier Engineering school in New York City. While attending Tech he was an active baseball infielder for the 1947 Tech team. The unique aspect of the Tech team was that it's home field was Ebbets field, the home field of the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Dodgers in that year were undergoing major unsettling events. Number one was the changeover of the management of the team with the replacement of the popular manager Leo Dorocher, with the mild manneredBurt

Shotten. However, even more unsettling was the morale of the team because of the bringing up a rookie player. In addition, the manager, Leo Dorocher, who was being replaced due to being associated with criminal elements and marital liaison with a married actress (Lorraine Day) which was a public relations nightmare for Branch Ricky the GM of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Along with the these problems, Ricky was bringing a rookie player up to the team. That rookie player was Jackie Robinson. As a result of this circumstance I always dropping me from the team because it was unlikely that an oriental was unlikely to make it in baseball. Looking back in that time period an oriental didn't enter major baseball until the mid 50's, ten years later.
