Adam Lowell Roberts was born on December 11, 1978, in Atlanta, GA as the only child of Herman, a computer programmer, and Benita, a registered nurse. His mother's side of the family is of Lebanese descent. Within a few years, his parents divorced and Adam's mother remarried David Teems, a Christian artist. After high school, Adam studied theatrics at Dekalb Community College in Atlanta. Not wanting to move, Adam moved on to other careers and vocations until 2016, when he decided to make his first feature film, The Orthodox West. He attributes his inspiration to return to the arts to a documentary called Becoming Truly Human (2017), because Adam was involved in the pre-production of the film. After the localized success in the Orthodox Church of his first feature, Adam was approached to make a sequel, Ladyminster. At the completion of Ladyminster, Adam moved into filmmaking full-time.
