New York is said to be the city that never sleeps. So too can be said about Bronx native, David Chin, whose sleepless nights are spent imagining new ways to entertain audiences through sight and sound. Much like his hometown, David's mind is the sum total of a diverse cultural mashup that lends itself to a perspective uniquely his own. It is through the lens of that perspective the stories of his imagination can be seen and told.
Embarking on his path to a self-established entertainment career, David took with him a hodge podge of creative influences; the likes of which include: composing geniuses John Williams, Quincy Jones, Maurice White, and Prince. Electrifying artists like Michael Jackson, David Copperfield, Bruce Lee, Denzel Washington, and Johnny Depp are also among the many. Finally, and probably the most influential, enigmatic visionaries: Walt Disney, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ian Fleming, Rod Serling, Spike Lee and his very own mother and father, Jennifer and Wayne Chin, complete that list.
With the support and blessing of his parents, David's initial steps landed him in the world of music. There, his written work would take form through song. But, with a penchant for theatrics, his songs soon came to life on the stage. The transition from stage to screen was inevitable.
His start in film mirrored that of his start in music. Just as he wrote, produced, perfected and performed his unique sound independently; he would write scripts and produce movies. This time, however; he would partner with long time childhood friend and co author, Stephen Herman, to establish their company Broken Box. With one goal in mind, his aim was to portray emotionally charged, thought provoking, socially gripping and theologically challenging tales that render audiences captive; simultaneously challenging others to explore new ways of breaking the proverbial creative box.
