Bob Ingersoll grew up in Shaker Heights Ohio and attended University School. After he graduated in 1971, he attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. He received a B.A. in 1975.

He attended the Case Western Reserve University School of Law and received a J.D. in 1981. In 1981 he became an assistant public defender in Cleveland Ohio. He retired from the Cuyahoga County Public Defender Office in 2009.

Bob is also a freelance comic book writer and novelist and wrote numerous comic book scripts for publishers such as Innovation Comics, Comico Comics, Kitchen Sink Press, D.C. Comics and Marvel Comics. He also wrote Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse comic book stories for Egmont, a Danish publisher.

With Tony Isabella, he co-authored a novel featuring Captain America and a "Star Trek" novel which is best described as a "Perry Mason mystery in space."

Made in Cleveland (2013) was his first movie.
