Joseph Donald Zadwick was born in Orange, California 6th of Feb 1955 to Donald Thayer Zadwick, a master mechanic, engineer, and former race car/motorcycle driver, and Christine Zadwick (Tidwell). His father was of Russian Jewish Ancestry and his mother was of English Ancestry.
His Grandparents, Morris and Ruth Zadwick lived in Beverly Hills, California where, after opening Paramount Auto Service, later sold it to Paramount Pictures for movie lot expansion and purchased condos to rent nearby. This led to both meeting and getting the chance to spend time both on and off set with many Hollywood stars of the 50's and 60's who were tenants in the condos, as well as through the local lavish parties Morris and Ruth would have and attend where guests like Alfred Hitchcock were regulars. In addition, his father Don ran a fishing and boat tour business out of Newport Beach and was the master mechanic for many of the Hollywood stars yachts, such as John Wayne.
By his elementary school years through high school, Joe would spend summers in California and the rest of the time in Duncanville, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, Texas which was closer to his mothers family. The exposure to the Hollywood scene led him to audition for a role as one of the sons in the Brady bunch, a part which he was called back for, but turned down by his mother because of the relocation back to California that would have been required. He spent his free time during those summers in California surfing and hanging out with his friend Mark Huth, son of David McLean (Eugene Huth), better known as the Marlboro Man.
Back in Texas, Joe Zadwick's late teens and twenties found him regularly entering Autorama and other large show car events around the country. His custom rod, a 1929 Model A built by Joe and his father Don called "Joe's Bar", featured artwork surrounding the body hand painted by Richard Crump and taken from the western paintings of Charles Marion Russell, a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I 428 SCJ called "Black Beauty", and a custom 1954 Chevy Pickup Truck, won numerous awards at these events including 3 ISCA World of Wheels Shows and People's Choice Award in Houston 1978 (Joe's Bar).
Joe Zadwick graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a major in Geology and a minor in Physics/Biology. In 1981 he started Vintage and Custom Homes, Inc. as a custom home builder and carpenter.
In 1982, Joe Zadwick was cast as an extra in Bruce Bereford's film Tender Mercies, starring Robert Duvall and Tess Harper.
Joe Zadwick married Mary Suzanne Zadwick in 1977 and together they have two children, Jordan Zadwick, an accomplished drummer and a technology entrepreneur, and Joanna Welk (Zadwick) who is a stylist/cosmetologist and has a passion for animal welfare.
Joe is a master carpenter, mechanic, and a jazz guitarist. He spends his time building homes, restoring vintage vehicles, and playing guitar.
