Hans von Morhart was one of the many German-born actors who had
emigrated to the USA and who had been kept very active thanks to (or
rather because of) Adolf Hitler. Indeed like many of his
fellow-countrymen, he played a host of German servicemen (whether
privates, guards, sentries, troopers, sub officers or officers) as well
as SS or Gestapo men. His name has remained unknown to the general
public though as his roles were too tiny. Once Hitler, his purveyor of
work, had disappeared from the scene, Hans von Morhart decided to
return to his motherland. He worked for some time in West Germany and
landed a few gigs, but not in any significant film, except maybe in
"Der Arzt von Stalingrad" in 1958. His greatest claim to fame was in
fact to have served as technical advisor to
Lewis Milestone for his classic "All
Quiet on the Western Front" in 1930.
