Anton Jokikunnas is a filmmaker (The Dark Auteur), director, producer, and Co-Writer. With a wealth of experience and depth, Anton is a unique and accomplished filmmaker who brings a distinct perspective to his craft. That allows him to tell stories that touch, evoke emotions, raise questions, provoke, entertain, and inspire. As an aesthete, Anton's passion for film visuals is evident in his work.
His background is in sales and marketing and his first education was at a business school. After running his own experiential marketing and production company, Anton studied TV production and now works as a freelancer in the film industry. He has a wide range of experience, having worked on various projects including short and feature-length indie movies, music videos, and commercials, primarily as a gaffer, lighting technician, grip, camera operator, and sound recorded. He has also occasionally played in front of the camera. Anton's current focus is to serve as a Gaffer / Lighting Director, Lighting Designer, Film Director, and Film Producer.
As an introverted observer of people, Anton has spent his entire life observing people and reading them. He has always used emotional intelligence, intuition, and instincts in his work, and these qualities are evident in his filmmaking.
Anton is a highly independent and self-directed professional who brings his unique vision, knowledge, and creativity to his projects. As a gaffer, Anton is known for his keen artistic eye and his ability to create a sense of feeling, shape, and mood through his lighting. He approaches lighting like painting, taking inspiration from some of the world's finest filmmakers and DPs. He has a reputation for being more like an artist than a technician, with a personal style that is dark and moody with contrast and shadows.
As a gaffer, Anton thinks like a director, because he is more like a director and he also constantly studies DPs and thinks like DPs which sets him apart from other gaffers.
Anton worked as a gaffer on Layers of Lies, and the film's DP received gold at the Australian Cinematography Society awards, gold at the New York Cinematography Awards, Best Feature Film Cinematography at the European Cinematography Awards (ECA), Best Cinematographer at Canadian Cinematography awards, Best Cinematographer at Los Angeles Cinematography awards (LACA), Best Cinematography Feature Film at Stockholm City Film Festival, and the Best Cinematography Los Angeles Film Awards (LAFA).
In addition to his work as a gaffer, Anton is also a highly ambitious and driven individual with a passion for directing and producing films. He is developing his own feature film projects as a Co-Writer, Director, and Producer, with the goal of telling meaningful and entertaining stories that resonate with audiences worldwide. His voice as a filmmaker is dark and deep.
He is available for work worldwide and welcomes the opportunity to bring their unique vision to any project.
In his free time, Anton listens to heavy metal music, watches good films and TV shows, and reads.
