Peter Bergendy got his first camera from his grandfather at the age of six. From that moment film became part of his life. He originally graduated as a psychologist with a first class degree with distinction, where he wrote his thesis on horror film psychology. For ten years he was the editor-in-chief of the Hungarian issue of German Cinema Magazine, he worked as academic researcher for the Hungarian Film Institute, also as editor and director in Hungarian Television.

For 30 years now he's been ditched in Hungarian and international commercial directing, his multiple award winning commercials are shown across the world.

As a director, his first feature film, a romantic comedy 'Stop Mom Teresa!' was released in 2004 achieving national and international recognition for him. His cold war spy film noir 'The Exam' has won New Directors Gold Hugo, in Chicago International Film Festival 2012. The National Film Institute chose it as one of the Basic Hungarian Films. His long awaited third feature 'Trezor' has won eight Hungarian Film Awards, in Hungarian Film Week 2019, and it is nominated for an International Emmy® Award in 2019. His new feature film 'Post Mortem' is apparently the first Hungarian horror ever made. It was Hungary's official entry for the Oscars® in 2022. So far, the film was screened on 47 international film festivals, selected for 24 main official competitions, and won 29 awards. 'Post Mortem' was the best-selling Hungarian movie around the world in 2021. Its distribution rights were purchased for nearly 130 countries from Great Britain to India, the Americas to Japan.

In 2020 Peter Bergendy was awarded the national Balázs Béla Prize for his outstanding services in the arts and motion pictures.

He is a natural storyteller, has a cinematic approach to heuristically convey emotions and develop sincere connections to his subjects.
