When Eugene was in high school, he participated -- and did very well --\nin track and field, especially javelin throwing, and his athletic\nskills earned him a scholarship to USC. However, an accident injured\nhis arm, ending his athletic career -- and his term at USC -- and he\nworked a number of odd jobs and small roles to make ends meet and\ndecided that acting was for him. However, he thought that his real name\nwas not a suitable one for an aspiring actor, and so "Michael Landon"\nwas born.

Two of his first big roles were as Tony Rivers in\nI Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957)\nand as Tom Dooley in the western\nThe Legend of Tom Dooley (1959).\nThat same year he was approached by producer\nDavid Dortort to star in a pilot called\nThe Restless Gun (1957),\nwhich was renamed when the series was picked up to\nBonanza (1959). Landon played Little\nJoe Cartwright, the youngest of the three Cartwright brothers, a cocky\nand somewhat rebellious youth nevertheless had a way with the ladies.\nFor 14 years, Landon became the heart and soul of the show, endearing\nhimself to both younger and older viewers, and he became a household\nname during the 1960s and 1970s.

In 1968, after almost ten years of playing Little Joe, he wanted an\nopportunity to direct and write some episodes of the show. After the\nseason finale in 1972, Dan Blocker, who\nplayed his older brother Hoss and was also a close friend, died from a\nblood clot in his lung, after gall bladder surgery, but Michael decided\nto go back to work, revisiting his own character in a two-part episode\ncalled "Forever."

Bonanza (1959) was finally canceled\nin early 1973, after 14 years and 430 episodes. Michael didn't have to\nwait long until he landed another successful role that most TV\naudiences of the 1970s would thoroughly enjoy, his second TV western,\nfor NBC,\nKüçük ev (1974).\nThat show was based on a popular book written by\nLaura Ingalls Wilder, and he played\nenduring patriarch and farmer Charles Ingalls. Unlike\nBonanza (1959), where he was mostly\njust a "hired gun," on this show he served as the producer, writer,\ndirector, and executive producer. By the end of its eighth season in\n1982, Landon decided to step down from his role on "Little House" as he\nsaw his TV children grown up and moved out of their father's house, and\na year later, the show was canceled. After 14 years on\nBonanza (1959) and 8 years on\nKüçük ev (1974),\nit was about time to focus on something else, and once again, he didn't\nhave to wait too long before\nHighway to Heaven (1984)\ncame along. Unlike the western shows that he did for 23 years, this NBC\nfantasy/drama show focused on Jonathan Smith, an angel whose job was to\nsave peoples' lives and work for God, his boss.\nVictor French played ex-cop Mark Gordon,\nwho turned down a fortune but had redeemed himself by meeting Jonathan.

By the end of the fifth season in 1989, French was diagnosed with lung\ncancer and died in June of that same year. Landon was devastated by the\nloss and pulled the plug on\nHighway to Heaven (1984).\nIn early 1991, after 35 years of working on NBC, he was axed by the\nnetwork, so he moved to CBS to star in the pilot of a two-hour movie,\nUs (1991), in which he played Jeff\nHayes, a man freed from prison by new evidence after 18 years\nwrongfully spent inside. This was going to be another one of Landon's\nshows but, in April 1991, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He\nlater appeared on\nThe Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962)\nto talk about his battle with the disease, and many people in the\naudience were affected by the courage and energy he showed.\nUnfortunately, he was already terminally ill by that time, and on Monday, July\n1st, 1991, after a three-month battle, he finally succumbed to the\ndisease. Never one to forget her "Prairie" roots, Alison enjoys making appearances several times a year at various "Little House on the Prairie" historical sites for educational events and gatherings of fans. She has been a frequent visitor to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in the real life Walnut Grove, Minnesota as well as Green Bay, Wisconsin's Heritage Hills, Mumford's Genesee Country Village, Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home and Museum in Mansfield, Missouri and many, many others.

Alison has a long history of activism. In 1986 when her friend and "Little House husband" co-star, Steve Tracy, passed away due to complications of HIV/AIDS, Alison immediately began volunteering at AIDS Project Los Angeles. Her duties ranged from working on the Southern California AIDS Hotline and the APLA food bank, (APLA's Necessities of Life Program,) to chairing the steering committee of the volunteer speakers bureau and developing "Safer Sex" workshops. She has provided AIDS education to doctors, nurses, prison inmates, service clubs, churches, department stores and schools, written AIDS education articles for the magazines "Frontiers" and "Designers West", and spent seven years hosting the APLA educational cable television show, "AIDS Vision". In 1992, Joel Wachs presented Alison with a resolution by the Los Angeles City Council commending her on her work on behalf of people living with HIV and AIDS.

From 1989 through 1993 she served as Program Manager at Tuesday's Child, an organization assisting children and families affected by HIV and AIDS. From 1989 through 2003 she served as both hostess and producer for the comedy stage at the AIDS Project Los Angeles Annual Summer Party, (on the back-lot of Universal Studios), where through an evening of raucous entertainment, featuring name comedians, she helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for people living with HIV.

She currently serves as California Chair, National Spokesperson and Founding Board Member on the National Advisory Board of The National Association to Protect Children, or PROTECT.org, fighting to give children a legal and political voice in the war against child abuse. As an activist for the improvement of child protection laws, she has spoken before the California Senate and worked on legislative and political campaigns in several states, including Virginia and New York, in addition to PROTECT's work on federal legislation in Washington, D.C.

She has appeared on numerous television news programs discussing the legal and political issues surrounding child sexual abuse and exploitation. She came forward to tell the world about the sexual abuse she suffered in her own life, during her 2004 interview on Larry King Live.

However, he thought that his real name\nwas not a suitable one for an aspiring actor, and so "Michael Landon"\nwas born.

Two of his first big roles were as Tony Rivers in\nI Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957)\nand as Tom Dooley in the western\nThe Legend of Tom Dooley (1959).\nThat same year he was approached by producer\nDavid Dortort to star in a pilot called\nThe Restless Gun (1957),\nwhich was renamed when the series was picked up to\nBonanza (1959). Landon played Little\nJoe Cartwright, the youngest of the three Cartwright brothers, a cocky\nand somewhat rebellious youth nevertheless had a way with the ladies.\nFor 14 years, Landon became the heart and soul of the show, endearing\nhimself to both younger and older viewers, and he became a household\nname during the 1960s and 1970s.

In 1968, after almost ten years of playing Little Joe, he wanted an\nopportunity to direct and write some episodes of the show. After the\nseason finale in 1972, Dan Blocker, who\nplayed his older brother Hoss and was also a close friend, died from a\nblood clot in his lung, after gall bladder surgery, but Michael decided\nto go back to work, revisiting his own character in a two-part episode\ncalled "Forever."

Bonanza (1959) was finally canceled\nin early 1973, after 14 years and 430 episodes. Michael didn't have to\nwait long until he landed another successful role that most TV\naudiences of the 1970s would thoroughly enjoy, his second TV western,\nfor NBC,\nKüçük ev (1974).\nThat show was based on a popular book written by\nLaura Ingalls Wilder, and he played\nenduring patriarch and farmer Charles Ingalls. Alison has a long history of activism. In 1986 when her friend and "Little House husband" co-star, Steve Tracy, passed away due to complications of HIV/AIDS, Alison immediately began volunteering at AIDS Project Los Angeles. Her duties ranged from working on the Southern California AIDS Hotline and the APLA food bank, (APLA's Necessities of Life Program,) to chairing the steering committee of the volunteer speakers bureau and developing "Safer Sex" workshops. She has provided AIDS education to doctors, nurses, prison inmates, service clubs, churches, department stores and schools, written AIDS education articles for the magazines "Frontiers" and "Designers West", and spent seven years hosting the APLA educational cable television show, "AIDS Vision". In 1992, Joel Wachs presented Alison with a resolution by the Los Angeles City Council commending her on her work on behalf of people living with HIV and AIDS.

From 1989 through 1993 she served as Program Manager at Tuesday's Child, an organization assisting children and families affected by HIV and AIDS. From 1989 through 2003 she served as both hostess and producer for the comedy stage at the AIDS Project Los Angeles Annual Summer Party, (on the back-lot of Universal Studios), where through an evening of raucous entertainment, featuring name comedians, she helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for people living with HIV.

She currently serves as California Chair, National Spokesperson and Founding Board Member on the National Advisory Board of The National Association to Protect Children, or PROTECT.org, fighting to give children a legal and political voice in the war against child abuse. As an activist for the improvement of child protection laws, she has spoken before the California Senate and worked on legislative and political campaigns in several states, including Virginia and New York, in addition to PROTECT's work on federal legislation in Washington, D.C.

She has appeared on numerous television news programs discussing the legal and political issues surrounding child sexual abuse and exploitation. She came forward to tell the world about the sexual abuse she suffered in her own life, during her 2004 interview on Larry King Live.
