La Folie Almayer is the adaptation made by Chantal Akerman of Joseph Conrad's eponymous novel. A story of passion, perdition and madness somewhere in Southeast Asia that the filmmaker shot in Cambodia in 2010 with Stanislas Merhar, Aurora Marion and Marc Barbé in the main roles. Present on the set, Sopheak Sao filmed the filmmaker at work in the heart of exotic vegetation and in the black waters of a river that seems to lead nowhere. The images she filmed were edited in 2021 by the Belgian editor Marwan Montel and show how formal and aesthetic work is a vector of the narrative aspect in the work of the Belgian director. A wonderful opportunity to find her as close as possible and to slip into the heart of her work.
