Set in a warm summer in 1990 in former East Germany, it follows a young woman who begins a relationship with a charismatic farmer who is twice her age.

Ambitious young entrepreneur Marcel Lange wants to create a monument for himself and his family with a new high-end village. Full of drive, he convinces his mentor and superior Hartmut to build the first villa in "Neu-Plünderich am See". But in order to fully convince the energy company and employer ÖZEV, the old village has to be completely vacated, but his sister Franca stands in his way. In order to prevent the destruction of the village and the surrounding nature, she occupies the former family home in Alt-Plünderich. To make her point, she intends to develop an electric storage system that will be powered by wind and solar energy and make everyone in the village self-sufficient. Together with her friend Vitali, she defends the old house by any means necessary. In the process, a feud develops between Vitali and Franca's jealous former lover Uwe who guards the last access road to the almost empty village. A whirlpool of entanglements.

Doch die Arbeit im Tagebau ist für Michael mehr als nur ein Beruf, sie gibt ihm Identität und Lebensinhalt. So versucht er seine Kolleginnen und Kollegen vom Protest gegen den schnellen Wandel zu überzeugen. Gefangen in seiner Verbissenheit, verliert er jedoch zunehmend den Rückhalt - auch in seiner Familie. Trotzdem kann Michael das Gefühl, nicht mehr gebraucht zu werden, einfach nicht akzeptieren und stemmt sich in einem Don Quichote-artigen Kampf gegen die übermächtige Zeitenwende.
