During the years of socialism, Moscow has turned into a kind of museum - a sort of glyptotek (collection of sculptures) of the Soviet period. But city monuments are not just museum exhibits, they "live" among us on the streets and squares, their fates are closely intertwined with the fates of the city and its inhabitants, with the events taking place at their pedestals. What place does the Soviet monumental heritage occupy in our cultural consciousness and in the space of a modern city?

From the Life of Monuments

In the confusion of the end of the second world war and the following years, precious paintings, sculptures, books and other objects disappeared as war-booty to Russia. Until recently, among these missing art objects was a unique collection of drawings by ancient European masters such as Rembrandt, Dürer, Holbein, Grünewald, Titiaan and Tintoretto, which once belonged to the Dutch banker and art collector Franz Koenigs. The film "Following the Trail of a Lost Collection" tells the story of this collection, a story of robbery, political intrigues and greed, full of dramatic events.

In 1992, during the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict, the famous Sukhumi Monkey Nursery found itself in the epicenter of military events. This is a fairly accurate reflection of what is happening to the human community itself in the so-called "hot spots".

Unnatural Selection

In the early history of the Soviet Union horrific experiments took place; cross-fertilization between man and ape, blood regeneration via blood transfusion, women who were artificially inseminated with sperm from declared geniuses.
